Projects are the lifeblood of MVO - they are what we do day to day to help Malawi. Depending on your interest, skills and experience you may choose any one of the projects listed below.

We are flexible with volunteers getting involved in a variety of projects, but we ask that you commit to one as your focus.

Building

We need volunteers who are skilled in the following areas: bricklayers, labourers, electricians, plumbers, roofing specialists and carpenters.

Sports

The main sports are football and netball, but if you are passionate about something we will welcome it!

Community

In the mornings, you will be working with the community, in particular with two local Child Care Centres.

Medical

Our medical projects attract qualified health professionals as well as jobs suitable for students and people with some experience in First Aid.

Our mission as an organisation is to do valuable work in the community in Monkey Bay, Malawi.

I travelled on my own, but met so many fabulous people here, I certainly never felt alone. Part of the experience for me was getting to know everyone else there, and what had brought everyone from all corners of the world to MVO. The volunteer house was pretty busy while I was there, so there was always something going on, whether it was playing silly games, guitar sing-a-longs, swimming in the lake, climbing the ‘mountain’ behind the volunteer house or sharing stories from home.

I decided to go to Malawi for four weeks on the teaching project during my second year at university. I had just taken a module on International Education and Development in the hope of becoming a teacher when I graduated. I thought it would be a perfect way to gain some more teaching experience as well as being something exciting to do during those long, protracted summer holidays.
